Indoor And Outdoor Games Essay – IELTS Writing Task 2 Essay Band 9

Children’s dependence on electronic entertainment sources has frightened many people. It is acknowledged that this dependence is detrimental to both physical and mental growth of children. I agree with the opinion that children should devote their free time to outdoor activities and conventional games instead of entertaining themselves with computer indoors.

To begin with, outdoor games are more beneficial to children’s health. They not only instill agility and endurance but also teach children to socialize and make friends. Thus, outdoor games help develop qualities like cooperation, team spirit, patience, and confidence. To illustrate when a child plays outdoors, he comes across a number of different situations like victory, failure, hope, and despair. Thus, the child learns to face such situations with emotional balance.

Furthermore, outdoor games make children physically stronger. While playing outdoors, children get exposure to fresh air and sunlight. It helps burn the extra calories, boosts metabolism and strengthens their immune system.

However, one cannot ignore the fact that some types of computer games can be very intelligent and may contain huge educational potential. They can encourage youngsters to develop researching skills and inspire them to learn new things. Also, it is commonly seen that allowing children to spend time outdoors without proper supervision of parents has adverse effects. Unattended child can receive trauma or become a subject of crime. Therefore, being on the street is not always safe.

In total, it is evident that outdoor games are vital for proper growth and development of children. However, like any other thing, it can spill over and affect the children adversely if overdone.
