Success depends on luck or hard work essay
Role of luck in the success of people is a long-disputed issue. In my opinion, while hard work is an essential element for success, luck too matters a lot as all those who work hard do not become successful.
To begin with, luck can appear in many forms that are beyond human control. For example, when it comes to success, luck can mean being in the right place to meet someone, or having the right skills to get a job done. There are instances when it means turning down an offer and then having a better offer unexpectedly. To my mind, hard work lies in ones own hand while opportunity very much depends on luck.
Yet another illustration of the relation between luck and hard work is the discovery of America. In fact, Columbus was looking for India and it was sheer luck that took him to America. However, one cannot ignore the fact that Columbus had been studying and calculating for a long time before that invention. The dictum ‘luck favours those who help themselves’ seems correct in such cases.
It is generally seen that pure luck without hard work does not keep a person successful in the long term. For example, a person who wins a lot of money in a lucky draw might become rich instantaneously. But to remain so in the long term, one should invest or utilize that money wisely. Also, instantaneous and unexpected success makes people feel very insecure as they cannot handle the situation properly.
In total, people who work hard help make their own luck by being ready to strike when the iron is hot. In the case of success, I think that hard work and luck go hand in hand
