Some communities have decided to evaluate the skills of teachers based on the score of their students. It is this evaluation that determines how much teachers will be paid. I do not think this is a good idea due to several reasons.
First of all, such a step will undoubtedly lead to improper imparting of education. To illustrate, the teachers may resort to pressurizing students to mug up the entire syllabus word by word to get high scores and as a result, students will miss out on a lot of education that cannot be measured on a test.
Yet another problem associated with this practice is that teachers may be forced to ignore students who have learning difficulties. Some students are slow learners and need more personal attention. If teachers are worried about tests, they to help the less able students.
In fact, teachers are supposed to be patient, compassionate and approachable. However, the urge to ensure their salary may compel them to compromise on such personal values. Lack of student performance can make them even aggressive leading to rude behavior. This will seriously affect the traditional concept of the teacher-student relationship. In most cultures, teachers are considered next to God.
In total, one can say that it is improper to base the salary of teachers on the performance of their students. There may be a small proportion of teachers who might improve performance for salary but it is impolite and injustice to measure such a noble profession using the money.
