Soon it becomes a serious issue adding tension to the serious issue to the Sino-Indian relations. The trilateral border dispute between Bhutan, China and India ended on the 73rd day after the two major rival India and China agreed to disengage their troops from the disputed land.

Doklam is the Bhutanese name of the region which is recognised by India as Doka La. China claims it to be a part of its Donglang region. Duka La is also India’s last military post on the tri-junction of its boundary with Bhutan and China. Bhutan has no formal diplomatic ties with China and depends on military and diplomatic support from India.

The Doklam areas is dangerously close to the narrow ‘Siliguri corridor that connects the northwestern states. A significant change in the status quo will have serious security implications and it could be dangerous for India’s growth.

Doklam Issue Essay 250 Words

One’s neighbour can be a help and also a menace. Undoubtedly China is both. We were at war with China in 1962 but the discontent did not stop there, today we have border disputes over Aksai-chin, Tibet and Arunachal Pradesh. China’s one belt one road project passes through Pakistan occupied Kashmir and challenges the integrity of India on a global scale. With China dumping its projects in India, a trade stand-off is imminent and could strangle economic growth in India in the long run.

To nip the dragon in the bud India has to tackle China multidimensionally. India has certain advantages over China. Indians are highly diversified and adaptable. India should manufacture and process products domestically and deliver globally and be a caterer to the world than just being an importer. Recently, China threw its dominance by jeopardizing Indian borders at Doklam, to this Indian responded with agility. By building pressure diplomatically and not backing off at the border, India showed that it cannot be intimidated and has might and main.

India has a larger proportion of the young population than China has. By 2030 country’s working-age population can overtake the ageing Chinese population. Joint trade and military exercises in the South China sea especially ASEAN countries can provide a leverage over China.

Eventually, to peaceful co-exist both the countries should come to a consensus and abolish both the cold war mentality and the concept of “sphere of influence”. India has to balance its diplomacy at table along with a strong display at the border and present that India is not an enemy but an ally.

Doklam Issue Essay 300 Words

Doklam, or Donglang in Chinese, is an area spread over less than a 100 sq km. It comprised of a plateau and a valley at the tri-junction between India, Bhutan and China. It is surrounded by the Chumbi Valley of Tibet, Bhutan’s Ha Valley and Sikkim. This plateau is very important for all three countries. Currently, Bhutan is controlling Doklam plateau which China claiming as their territory.

Here China is building a road which India has opposed. India sent his army to stop Chinese road construction in the region. Thus India China stand-off has started and lasted for over 2 months. This road is a cause of concern for India. If completed, it will shorten the distance for the Chinese army towards India’s strategically vulnerable ‘Chicken’s Neck’ area—the Siliguri Corridor. This corridor is very important for India because this corridor connects the north-east region with rest of India.

However, the Doklam plateau belongs to Bhutan but India had sent his troops to stop the construction of a road. This is because India and Bhutan had signed friendship treaty in 1949 in which Bhutan agreed to let India “guide” its foreign policy and both nations would consult each other closely on foreign and defence related matters. So India has taken the right decision to interfere in the issue. Otherwise, it would be a problem for India and Bhutan both if China would have completed a road.

To avoid confrontation in the near future, both countries should sit together and talk about a different contentious issue with each other. Both countries should avoid changing the status-quo in the region. Otherwise, it can destabilize the region and affect world peace.
