These are many different ways of learning is one’s life. From the advice of parents and relatives, from friends and through one’s own observation and assumption. Among all these, one can undoubtedly say that experience is the best teacher through it certainly has certain unavoidable disadvantages.
From the one side, learning through one’s personal experience brings many benefits. First of all, it is proved that personal experience has the greater impact on a person. For example, repeated warnings of parents may not keep a child away from the fire but ‘a burnt child always dreads fire’. Furthermore, warning and pieces of advice may not be accompanied by a solution to handle any problem. In addition, facing situations directly will make people more confident, stronger and persistent. And most important of all, next time, they will try to avoid it if it cannot be solved.
On the other side, learning from experience may, at times, become fatal. For example, one who tries his luck in the stock market without proper knowledge may burn his fingers if not listening to the advice of others. Also, there are many instances when children get fatally injured or killed engaging in activities against the advice of parents or elders. So, one can undoubtedly say learning from experiences is time-consuming and dangerous.
To sum up, I think it is wise to combine both of these ways to learn. Together they can greatly simplify one’s life and make the way to success shorter.
