Children leisure activities must be educational

For most parents, it is quite indigestible to see their children wasting their time on activities with no educational value. While many suggest that children should be given more time to engage in leisure activities they like, some others believe that such activities should be educational in nature. In my opinion, leisure activities need not necessarily be educative in nature.

To begin with, the purpose of leisure activities is to provide relief from the boredom of daily routine. Of course, the volume of the information children receive at school is enormous, and they should be given some free time to relax. Such leisure activities may include watching television, playing computer games, and playing outdoor games with friends. Leisure activities are in no way intended to improve the knowledge of children. So, there is no point in the opinion that free time activities should be educational.

Yet another point is that no leisure activity is wastage of time. There is something to learn from all activities. For example, playing with their peer group helps children develop communication skills. Also, outdoor games are essential for proper physical and mental development of children.

However, we have to admit that in this competitive world where huge volumes of information are generated every day, one has to spend time effectively. The more time a kid devotes to the study process; the better his future life will be. So, there is no wrong if parents encourage their children to play games which make the brain work. For example, kids can have a competition combining physical activity and thinking.

In total, it is clear that almost all leisure activities of children are beneficial in one way or another. So, forcing children to stick to certain particular activities is meaningless as it will defeat the very purpose of leisure activities.
