Humankind, through the ages, has undergone many changes from the time when people communicated only face-to-face. Nowadays a person has many types of communication means like letters, telephone and, internet. Some people still prefer to use face-to-face .
communication despite many other more convenient ones. In my opinion, face-to-face communication is much more efficient, though less convenient, than any other means.
The first and foremost advantage of face to face communication over other forms is the possibility of observing the non-verbal content of communication. For example, the facial
expression and gestures of the person can say many things about a person, his strong and weak sides, his traits, manners and even habits. That is the reason why managers always prefer to have face-to-face communication with the future employees before hiring them.
Yet another advantage is the effectiveness of communication. While sitting together, communication becomes easy as one can immediately alter ones negotiation according to the situation. This makes it possible to reach a decision in any situation, thus saving a lot of time. On the other hand, in all other forms of communication, it may take a lot more time. To illustrate, if somebody wants to collect some information from a company, writing a letter and waiting for its response is highly frustrating. Instead, by going there directly, the issue can be solved in a short time.
However, there are instances when face to face communication is not required. For example, if you want to order a pizza, you do not need to spend your time driving there, waiting for your turn, and talking with a representative.
To summarize, in my opinion, it is better to discuss all important issues face-to-face. It will eliminate many further misunderstandings and will bring only benefits to both sides.
