The issue of whether students should be given one long vacation each year or several small vacations spread throughout the year is open for debate. Some people believe that students should have a few short vacations. However, others believe that one long vacation each year has more benefits for students. Personally, I think that both positions have advantages as well as disadvantages.
From the one side, one long vacation every year can bring many benefits to the students. First, students will have the opportunity to work full time during this vacation. They will be able to earn some pocket money or even money to cover the cost of their education. Moreover, students will be able to be more independent; they will learn how to earn money and how to spend it more carefully. Secondly, one long vacation gives students a great opportunity to travel, to learn more about other places and people, their traditions and customs.
From the other side, several short vacations bring a few benefits too. Firstly, students have the opportunity to take a short break at regular intervals throughout the year. They can spend this time relaxing, exercising, mustering their strength for another term of study. This helps them get higher grades. Second of all, during short vacations, students usually have a better opportunity to prepare for the oncoming exams. Finally, a long vacation has a negative aspect; students tend to forget many subjects they studied earlier.
To sum up, I think that in this case, an intermediate position can be taken. Students should have one long vacation in summer and one short vacation in winter.
