These days, everyone is familiar with the term ‘globalization’. However, the opinion of people regarding its effects varies from person to person. While some believe that globalization has a fundamentally beneficial influence on our lives, many others contend that it has detrimental effects as well.

Those who believe in the benevolence of globalization point out that it leads to improvement in the economy in both developing and developed countries. For the former, it provides job opportunities, better technologies, and development of infrastructure, and for the latter, it ensures raw materials, cheap labor, and a market to sell their products. To illustrate, when a multinational company establishes a factory in a developing country, the new equipment, the new management skill and the job vacancies are all in the best interest of local society, and the availability of resources, labor, and a growing market are beneficial to the multinational company.

Furthermore, globalization also promotes the exchange of cultures among different countries. Firstly, people worldwide can know each other better through globalization. As a result, the new generation all over the world has developed the same mindset, same lifestyle, and the same attitude towards life thereby breaking the barriers of region, religion, and language largely.

However, many people believe that globalization is the same old wolf of colonization in a new coat. They allege that without adequate infrastructure and capital, entrepreneurs from third world countries fail to compete with multinational giants. Thus, resources from poor nations are exploited by the developed countries. Yet another serious allegation is that it leads to assimilation and disappearance of cultures and languages.

In summary, one would admit that globalization comes with some adverse effects. However, the benefits brought by globalization far outweigh the disadvantages. So, we should further promote globalization and governments should take some measures to combat cultural assimilation.
