Suitable retirement age is a controversial issue as there is no unanimity in the opinion of people. It varies from area to area and from job to job. There are a lot of things to be taken into account on deciding the retirement age.
The first thing to be considered is the nature of the job. Some jobs require a lot of physical exertion. They include job in military, mines and so on. Keeping the old ones in these jobs can be dangerous. On the other hand, there are certain positions where experience is an asset. Such jobs include teaching, judiciary, and politics. There is nothing wrong in allowing people to continue up to their seventies in these jobs.
Yet another factor that needs attention in the level of unemployment in the country. If the unemployment rate is high, keeping the old ones on job will deny the young people their chances to get a job. Also, the number of skilled people may be very limited in certain areas. In such cases, there is no point in forcing the old ones out of their jobs very early.
From the above analysis, it becomes evident that it is not possible to set a particular age for retirement because the requirement of different jobs vary greatly. Also, the physical and mental capacities vary from individual to individual.
