“Freedom is never granted, it is always taken”. He is free, who lives as he chooses.”

26th January is a very important day in the history of our country. The new constitution of free India was adopted on 26th January, 1950. Thus India become a republic on that day. So we celebrate it as our Republic Day.

Our school remained closed on that day for normal work. It was announced by the Principle that the flag hoisting ceremony would be helpful in the college compound at 8 am.

First of all we assembled at the prayer ground. The chairman of the city was the president of the function. He hoisted the national flag at 9 am. The NCC cadets took part in the march past. Some teacher and students also expressed their views. Principal said, we are proud of our county. We are free due to the struggle of our leaders, we must do our best to maintain the dignity of our republic.” Some students recited poems and sang some patriotic songs. In the end the president rose to speak. He also paid homage to the national leaders for their glorious achievements. At last Principal thanked everybody.

Our principal announced that the school would remain closed for one day. The announcement made us very happy. After the Jan-Gan-Man we dispersed.

Our motherland was slaved under the British rule for long years during which Indian people were forced to follow the laws of British rule. After many years of struggle by the Indian freedom fighters, finally India became independent nation on 15th of August in 1947. After two and half year later India Government implemented its own constitution and declared India as the democratic Republic. Around 2 years, eleven months and eighteen days was taken by the constituent Assembly of India to pass the new constitution of India which was done on 26th of January in 1950. After getting declared as a Sovereign Democratic Republic, people of India started celebrating 26th of January as Republic Day every year.

Celebrating Republic Day every year is the great honour for the people living in India. It is the day of great importance and celebrated by the pope with big joy and enthusiasm by organising and participating in various events. People wait for this day very eagerly to be a part of this celebration. Preparation work for the republic day celebration at Rajpath starts a month before and way to India Gate become close for common people and security arrangement done a month before to avoid offensive activities during celebration of Republic Day.

A big celebration arrangement in the national capital, New Delhi and state capitals takes place all over the India. Celebration starts with the National Flag unfolding by the President of India and singing National Anthem. Following this Indian army parade, state wise Jhankis, march past, awards distribution, etc activities takes place. There is one sound that units every Indian “Jana Gana Mana”.

People celebrate this day by participating in activities organised at social places. Every one watch this celebration at Rajpath, New Delhi and news in T.V. At this day of great honour, every Indian people should sincerely promise to safeguard the constitution, maintain peace and harmony as well as support in the development of or country.
